In October 2022, Southern Spain was hit by a devastating sandstorm that affected the Costa Del Sol region. The powerful winds carried a massive amount of sand and dust, causing significant damage and chaos. The storm resulted in closed roads, cancelled flights, and shuttered schools.

The strong winds caused power outages, leaving thousands of people without electricity for several hours. Buildings, cars, and trees were damaged, with some structures collapsing and many trees being uprooted.

Despite the efforts of local authorities, cleaning up the aftermath of the sandstorm took several days. Public spaces, roads, and buildings were covered in a thick layer of sand and dust, serving as a stark reminder of the power of nature and the need to prepare for such events.

The picture, snapped at JJ’s Bar, looks out towards the main A7 road and the sea, both of which are barely visible due to the heavy sand and dust in the air. The sandstorm not only affected Spain but also parts of Europe.
